At its fourth annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency, held this year in Dublin, Ireland, the International Energy Agency announced the establishment of the Global Commission for Urgent Action on Energy Efficiency. The Commission will analyze how energy efficiency can be rapidly accelerated through new and stronger policy action, culminating in the development of actionable recommendations in 2020.
The Commission is comprised of 21 national leaders, current and former ministers, business executives, and global thought leaders, and will be chaired by Leo Varadkar, Prime Minister of Ireland. Members include current and former ministers for energy and environment from Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, Morocco, New Zealand and Spain.
